Historically Staithes Beach was a place of shipwrecks and smugglers, but it is also noted because the long distance walk “The Cleveland Way” passes along the top of the cliffs that overlook this beach. It is a small beach that is popular with families due to the shallow water and the gentle incline of the beach and also because it occupies a naturally sheltered harbour that protects it from onshore winds. The beach has no facilities but it is close to the village of Staithes, which has toilets, pubs, shops and restaurants.
