The Whitby Gothic Weekend takes place twice a year. The first event occurs during April and the second occurs at the end of October/early November. This weekend is a celebration of all things Gothic and many of the events take place in the shadow of Whitby Abbey, which inspired Bram Stoker’s book Dracula. During these festivals there are some weird and wonderful dress costumes to be seen. There is music, singing, dancing and arts and crafts events during these weekends. Various tickets are available which have to be purchased in advance. These are available online from the official Website or from the Tourist Information Centre in Whitby and a few other local retailers. Due to the popularity of these weekends the tickets often sell out several months in advance. The cost of an adult full weekend ticket for the April festival is £42 whilst a weekend ticket for October 2008 is £38.50.
