Sheffield Arena (Sheffield, United Kingdom)
The Sheffield Arena was officially opened by Her Majesty The Queen in May 1991. Since this date it has established itself as the city’s premier venue for live acts and performers that have played here include Madonna, U2, Barbara Streisand and the Rolling Stones. It is also the home of the Sheffield Steelers Ice Hockey team. Shortly after opening as the Sheffield Arena it was re-named the Hallam FM Arena, after its main sponsor but in November 2007 it reverted back to its original name, the Sheffield Arena once again. The arena can have various different seating arrangements and the stage is fully removable, enabling it to be positioned as a centre stage or across any one of its four walls. The maximum seating capacity is around 12,500 seats with space for around a further 3,700 people standing. In addition to hosting large music events the Sheffield Arena also plays host to sporting events, including international boxing. It also hosts various different business and corporate events.
