The countryside surrounding the hotel has been described as extremely picturesque and very relaxing. Many guests thoroughly enjoyed the views of the Esk Valley from their rooms and also visiting the stunning 70-foot waterfall which is only a short walk away from the hotel.
The food served at both the restaurant and the bar has been described as very tasty and made using high quality local produce. Guests appreciated being given the choice between the fine dining option and the less formal menu available at the on-site bar.
The public areas in the hotel including the two lounges have been highly praised by the guests who said that they enjoyed the opportunity of having somewhere comfortable to sit and relax after a day of sightseeing. There are lots of seating areas in the garden where many guests enjoyed having their drinks during the warmer months.
Guests whose rooms were located at the front of the hotel complained about being woken up at night by the rather loud church bells which could be heard every hour. Although the windows have secondary glazing many wanted to open them, especially during warmer weather.
All of the guest rooms are up several flights of stairs which inconvenienced some guests who had mobility issues. There is no lift on the premises so be prepared for a daily climb of the stairs to get to your room.
Guests who wanted to use the internet said they had difficulty in connecting due to the very low signal. The phone signal was also said to be quite weak and intermittent.
