Centrally located in Whitby’s maze of cobbled streets, Shepherd’s Purse is a historic, seven-bedroom guest house. In a courtyard setting, it is just a short walk from the beach and the harbour. All rooms are traditionally styled and have either a four-poster or brass bed, TV, tea and coffee making facilities, towels and homely touches like bedspreads and lavender pillows. Most rooms have private bathrooms and overlook the central courtyard. Guests can enjoy the private garden and there is parking at the Church Street pay and display car park, just a 3-minute walk away. Although the Shepherd’s Purse doesn’t offer breakfast, it is surrounded by tea rooms, cafes, pubs, restaurants and traditional fish and chip shops. Room service offers hot drinks and light bites. This seaside town accommodation is close to many of the town’s popular attractions, two minutes from the 199 steps and the Captain Cook Memorial Museum.

You’ll find the rooms around a courtyard, well presented and filled with little touches like fresh flowers, which guests really appreciated. Visitors liked this attention to detail that makes this hotel stand out, giving it its individual charm.
This hotel is situated in the heart of Whitby’s old cobbled streets and from here, you will be able to walk to the beach and harbour in minutes. Guests loved being able to stroll around the town and enjoy the numerous cafes and independent shops with ease.
This hotel features a pretty courtyard, which you can relax in after a day at the beach or exploring along the cliffs. Guests enjoyed being able to retreat to this oasis in the busy town centre, which some of the rooms look out onto.
The overwhelming majority of guests who stay at Shepherd’s Purse really enjoy their experience there and one of the only minor complaints is that the walls seem a little thin. This means that noises in neighbouring rooms or from the courtyard can sometimes be heard.
A small number of guests noted that the hotel is a little difficult to locate as it’s right in the heart of Whitby’s maze-like streets. Those guests also commented that this was part of its wonderful charm and that staff were quick to help with directions.
Although most guests really liked the quaint rooms at this hotel, some found them a little small. Guests also commented that despite this, the accommodation provided everything they expected and required.
