mima (always spelt without a capital m) is the name of an art gallery in Middlesbrough that is the abbreviation of the words: Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art. It is a purpose built building that cost £14.2 million to construct and opened in January 2007. The gallery comprises of five different rooms that include paintings, ceramics and jewellery. In addition to the works of art there are education rooms, exhibition areas, a café, shop, garden and a terrace. Admission is free and it is fully accessible by disabled visitors. The opening hours are: Mondays - closed Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday - 10.00am until 5.00pm Thursday - 10.00am until 8.00pm Sunday - 12noon - 4.00pm
