Accommodations in Worksop near Creswell Crags (Worksop, United Kingdom)
Creswell Crags (Worksop, United Kingdom)
Creswell Crags is a limestone gorge with dozens of small caves. Archaeological finds from these caves tell us that this was one of the most northerly places on Earth where ice age men were known to have lived. These caves contain examples of primitive cave art and in 2003 exploration into some of the smaller caves revealed high quality cave art depicting wolves, bears and mammoths. This is the best example of ice age cave art ever found in Britain. There is a visitor centre which also contains a museum and exhibition centre. Entry into this visitor centre is free. The Visitor Centre is open seven days a week from 10.30am -4.40pm between February and October. Between November and January the Centre opens the same hours but only on a Sunday. Guided tours take place into several of the caves. The cost of these tours vary in price.
