Roche Abbey (Maltby, United Kingdom)

Roche Abbey is a fairly typical example of a 12th century Abbey. It was built in 1147 and, although a large part of the site is now ruins, there are several features here that are still very well preserved. The site is in the care of English Heritage and the woodland around the Abbey is a site of special scientific interest (SSSI). Entry into the area surrounding the Abbey is free, but there is a charge for non English Heritage members to enter beyond the walls and into the Abbey House. The admission charges are: Adults: £3.00 (4.5 Euros) Children: £1.50 (2.75 Euros) Concessions: £2.20 (3.3 Euros) English Heritage members can enter free. Roche Abbey is open from April through to late September between Thursday to Monday from 10:00am until 4:00pm. It is open daily throughout August until 6:00pm.
