NEC Birmingham (Birmingham, United Kingdom)
The National Exhibition Centre is the UK’s Largest Exhibition Venue
The National Exhibition Centre, henceforth referred to as the NEC, is centrally located and approximately nine miles from the centre of the UK’s second largest city, Birmingham. The 20 interconnecting halls occupy a site of approximately 600 acres making the NEC, the UK’s largest exhibition centre and ensuring that it is towards the top of the league in Europe. Via one of the UK’s busiest motorways, the M5; the M42 link offers direct access to the NEC and to concert attractions at the neighbouring 16,000 seat Resorts World Arena.
Parking is a Walk in the Park at the NEC
Many hotels in the area offer onsite parking facilities and an NEC shuttle service for guests’ convenience. If you prefer to drive to NEC events, maybe with a quick getaway in mind at the end of the event, you’ll be relieved to learn that there are 16,500 spaces at the complex. Just look out for the electronic directional signs to make sure that you park as close as possible to the hall you need to be visiting. It’s also worth noting that, from the car park area, there is a free shuttle service to the various halls. There are further multi-storey spaces at Resorts World Arena but, of course, if you are staying at one of the hotels that are within walking distance, you’ll just enjoy a post-breakfast stroll to the NEC.
Birmingham is the UK’s Answer to Venice
There is no shortage of things to do when events at the NEC are over. Many activities are channelled around the shops, theatres, restaurants, and vibrant nightlife in the centre of nearby Birmingham. There are plenty of outdoor activities here too including investigating the city’s canal system which is estimated to cover more than 100 miles. That’s more than Amsterdam, and more than Venice! In truth, there are plenty of barges and narrowboats on these Birmingham canals, but not so many gondolas. In the opposite direction from the NEC, it’s an approximate 20-mile drive to William Shakespeare’s birthplace in picturesque Stratford-upon-Avon. Is it possible that, when he wrote The Merchant of Venice, he actually had Birmingham in mind?
