Accommodations in New Lanark near Corra Castle (New Lanark, United Kingdom)
Corra Castle (New Lanark, United Kingdom)
Corra Castle is a now ruined 14-15th century castle which overlooks Corra Linn, near the World Heritage Site of New Lanark. It is within the grounds of the Corehouse Estate and falls within the boundaries of the Falls of Clyde, one of six sites which make up the Clyde Valley Woodlands National Nature Reserve. Access to the castle is currently restricted for safety reasons, however visitors are able to view the well preserved outer walls and view some aspects of the inside of the castle through the windows. The castle is built on a cliff, with sheer drops on three sides and has a ditch on the fourth side, making access extremely difficult and therefore offering a good defence. It is sometimes referred to as Corehouse Castle, after the estate in which it lies, and less frequently as Corax Castle.
