Royal Highland Show (Edinburgh, United Kingdom)

The Royal Highland Show is an annual agricultural show, held in the last week of June at the Royal Highland Centre in Ingliston, just outside the city of Edinburgh. The first show was in 1822 and until 1959 it was held in different locations across Scotland every year, until 1960 when Ingliston became the show’s permanent location. Originally the show was simply an exhibition of livestock but has, over the years, developed into a festival of Scottish food and music as well. Exhibitors compete in various contests for prizes worth over £1 million. There are around 2000 entries every year with over 5000 animals. The livestock is not the only thing that’s judged at the show. Other categories include foods, traditional skills and show jumping.
