The Commercial Hotel (Wishaw, United Kingdom)

This is a chic, modern venue with a friendly atmosphere and superb facilities throughout. A cooked breakfast is provided all day, so it really doesn't matter if you're an early riser. There are also assorted burgers, meat dishes (the steak and sausage pie is a favourite), curries, haggis, fajitas, starters and desserts. Check signage for deals and promotions posted prominently around the venue. The bar has darts and a smoking area with televisions outside for smokers to enjoy. The parking area is ample and near a gas station/convenience store in case you forgot any necessities.

The rooms are beautifully-presented with quality amenities. Televisions are very large, showers are excellent, bedding is cosy and towels are plump and soft. Tea and coffee provisions are sufficient and all areas are immaculately clean. The fireplaces in some are ornate and others rustic. There aren't many hangers, so bring a few.

The customer service is above and beyond here. Reception offers to carry your bags up the stairs and explain the workings of room features for you, and servers can typically remember names and orders of even larger dining parties. Good humour and friendly banter with professionalism and efficiency.

Some may feel their rooms are cold while others report theirs to be overly warm with poor ventilation. Small window openings only allow for a small bit of outside air to come in. You may wish to bring a small fan or a sweater.

If you're above/near the bar, you can count on noise and sometimes they don't close until 3 am. Some have also been able to hear voices easily through their walls.

Sometimes you get Wi-Fi in your room; sometimes you don't.
