Way of the Roses (Bridlington, United Kingdom)

The Way of the Roses cycle path opened in September 2010 and covers 170 miles from Bridlington on the east coast to Morecambe on the west coast. The name derives from the white and red rose symbols of the two counties it crosses: Yorkshire and Lancashire. The route runs through a variety of landscapes including river valleys, forest and moorland, as well as small villages and the two cities of York and Lancaster. The highest point is at Greenhow (1312 feet) and the steepest sections and longest climbs are between Settle and Pateley Bridge in the Pennines. Cyclists will also pass through the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. The path is a combination of off-road tracks, designated cycle lanes and quiet country roads, linking together various stretches of the National Cycle Network. The whole route is signed in both directions.
