Foxton Locks (Market Harborough, United Kingdom)
Foxton Locks is a Foxton countryside park constructed around a set of ten canal locks on the Leicestershire arm of the Grand Union Canal. Foxton Locks is of particular significance and importance to the history of the canals in the East Midlands because it is the site of the rare Inclined Plane Boat Lift - a system of large water tanks that were raised up a steep slope both reducing the time taken to ascend the canal and allowing boats which were too wide for the locks to use the water. The lift was used for just 10 years in the early 1900s. In addition to the locks and the boat lift, there is a museum and several pubs and a coffee bar offering food and drink. Foxton Locks has two car parks - one for short stay and the other for longer visits. Boat hire is also available and special canal-side events take place throughout the year. Admission to Foxton Locks is free
