Cliff Lifts (Scarborough, United Kingdom)
Scarboroughs first tram car cliff lift was built in 1875. A total of five different lifts were built over the next ten years connecting various parts of the beach to the town. Three of these lifts are still in operation today. The original cars were steam powered but they were converted to motor driven in 1910. In 1932 the carriages were replaced and these carriages from that date are still used today. They are fully accessible by disabled visitors and can accommodate wheelchairs and pushchairs. The lifts operate daily between 9.30am and 5.30pm and cost 50p for a single adult journey. The long distance walk “The Cleveland Way” passes close to this attraction.
