The name of Grace Darling is an international legendary. As a 22 years old when she risked her life by rowing for a mile out to sea through a storm in an open boat to rescue survivors of the wrecked SS Forfarshire. Amongst her honours she received the silver medal of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. This museum was opened in 1938 to celebrate her life with exhibitions which include family belongings and letters. The original boat (a Northumbrian coble) is also on show. The museum which is owned by the RNLI is currently closed for refurbishments but will reopen in 2007. Opening hours: Will be announced Admission free There is local car parking. The Museum is wheelchair accessible
