Northumberland National Park (Hexham, United Kingdom)

Northumberland National Park was established in 1956 and covers 405 square miles. It stretches from Hadrian’s Wall northwards to the Cheviot Hills on the Scottish border. The Park is divided into four “destination areas”: Hadrian’s Wall, North Tyne and Redesdale, Rothbury and Coquetdale, and the Cheviot Hills. Walking, horse riding and cycling are possible on the many paths. Two major walking routes cross the Park: the Pennine Way runs north-south and Hadrian’s Wall Path cuts across the southern edge, running east-west. For visitors interested in water sports Kielder is the largest man-made lake in western Europe. There are three visitor centres viz. at Rothbury, Once Brewed on Hadrian’s Wall and Ingram in the Beamish valley. They provide literature and advice on activities and accommodation.
