Take a boat trip to the Farne Islands. Please note that only Inner Farne and Staple Island can be visited.It is recommended that, due to dive-bombing terns, visitors to Inner Farne in June should wear hats. The islands are one of Britain’s most important sea bird sanctuary, housing a bird reserve with around 70000 pairs of breeding birds from 21 species. These include nesting puffins, guillemots and kittiwakes. In season, puffins can be seen and throughout the year, the islands are also home to a large colony of grey seals. On Inner Farne visitors can see the Chapel of St Cuthbert, who died here in 687.
