Sheldonian Theatre (Oxford, United Kingdom)

The Sheldonian is a 17th Century theatre designed by Christopher Wren and named after Gilbert Sheldon, the benefactor who paid for its construction. The building is owned by the University and is used for many important university functions - not least of which are matriculation and graduation. It’s also hired out for public performances and conferences. Opening hours vary by season (potential visitors should check the website) but access is generally allowed for no more than a couple of hours per day. There is a charge of £2 per adult and £1 for concessions. Due to the restricted opening hours, this is a building that’s photographed a lot more than it is actually visited.
