Wilkin & Sons Ltd Museum (Tiptree, United Kingdom)

The Wilkin & Sons Ltd Museum is located on the premises of the factory in Tiptree. The company was founded in 1885 by Arthur Charles Wilkin and makes jams, preserves, honey, chutneys and other related sweet and savoury products. Wilkin owns around 1000 acres of land in and around Tiptree where the fruits for their jams are cultivated, including the “Little Scarlet”, a variety of strawberry that is only grown and used by Wilkins & Sons Ltd. The company is still owned by the Wilkin family and in the 1960’s John Wilkin started to collect all that is connected with the production of jam. This collection is now open to the public and large enough to fill an exhibition hall at the Tiptree factory. To be seen are paraphernalia that used to belong to the family, old machinery used in the process of making jams like a 1920’s apple peeler and corer, original jars from all decades since the company was founded and more. Also located on site are a visitor centre with shop and a tea room. The admission to the museum is free and ample parking spaces are provided.
