Manchester Pride (Manchester, United Kingdom)
Manchester Pride describes itself as a celebration for gay, bisexual and transgender people. Established in 1990, it has taken place every Bank Holiday August Weekend since. The festival begins on the Saturday with the Pride March, which draws huge crowds (some estimates claim 300,000) making it one of the largest events of its kind in Europe. Following on from the March there is a two day long music event with live acts, fairgrounds, stalls and street entertainment. The main events stage and the bars and clubs are located within a cordoned-off area that can only be accessed by those that paid for a ticket and been issued with an armband, but the Pride March and many other periphery events can be enjoyed by all. Manchester Pride’s main purpose is to raise money for a number of different charities. The event is very family orientated with many events aimed specifically at younger children (face painting, fairground rides etc). Further details including costs can be found on the website.
