Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum (Pooler, USA)

The Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum is located in the Savannah suburb of Pooler. The museum is dedicated to recognizing the contributions of the 8th Air Force to the Allied victory during World War II. It offers exhibits and programs intended to educate the public, and it maintains an archive collection designed to preserve and expand the historical record on the Eighth’s activities. Many of the museum’s exhibits are arranged chronologically, tracing the Eighth from its origin in Georgia through its UK-based operations during the war. Key features include the Eighth’s most notable aircraft (the B-17 Flying Fortress and the Boeing-Stearman PT KAYDET) and their crews and support units. Other exhibits focus on the POW experience, Women Air Force Service Pilots, and the Eighth’s post-WWII operations. There is also a Hall of Valor to honor individual heroism and a Roll on Honor recognizing all members of the Eighth who lost their lives. The grounds offer a parkland setting for the museum, three aircraft permanently on display, a memorial garden, and the Chapel of the Fallen Eagles. The Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum is open 7 days a week the year round. Admission is charged.
