Jardins des Tuileries (Paris, France)
The Jardins des Tuileries are situated in the heart of Paris and stretch from the Louvre to the Place de la Concorde and cover an area of 25 hectares. They were first commissioned by Queen Catherine de Medicis in 1564 then it was later redesigned and this work was attributed to Andre le Notre. At this time symmetrical flowerbeds and paths were introduced and a terrace was built that overlooked the River Seine. Further renovations took place in 1990 when sculptures were added with works by Van Cleve, Marly, Coustou and Le Paultre. There are two museums within the gardens, these are called the Orangery and the Musée du Jeu de Paume. There is also a children’s area that includes a traditional merry-go-round, donkey rides, small boats are available for hire and there are modelling work groups. Opening Times: April to September: 7am-9pm daily September to March : 7.30am-7.30pm daily
