Arc de Triomphe (Paris, France)

The Arc de Triomphe is a monument in Paris. It is located at the centre of Charles de Gaulle at the roundabout. It was built to honour those people who fought for France in the Napoleonic Wars. The names of the Generals in the wars are all on the top and inside of the arc. There is a tomb for an unknown soldier underneath the Arc from the World War I. The monument is the second biggest triumphal arch in the world. It is 49.5 metres tall, 45 metres wide and 22 metres deep. The Arc de Triomphe was designed by Jean Chalgrin in 1806. It is one of the most famous monuments in the city. There is an underpass for the pedestrian to cross. Visitors can take a lift and then walk up 46 steps or walk 284 steps to the top of the Arc. You can see the panoramic view of Paris on top of the Arc.
