Fort de Soto Park (St. Petersburg, USA)

Fort de Soto Park is the largest Park in the Pinellas County Park System and located at the southern tip of St Petersburg. The 1,136 acres large park consists of 5 interconnected keys (Mullet Key, St. Jean Key,Madelaine Key, St. Christopher Key and Bonne Fortune Key) and can be reached via a toll road. The park was named after Fort de Soto, a coastal defense construction that was in use from 1898-1945 and can be found on Mullet Key. The Fort and the Quartermaster Storehouse Museum can both be visited, there is no admission fee but donations are welcome. The recreational facilities in the park include a 6.8 mile long hiking trail, a canoe trail and three nature trails of varying lengths. For swimming there are award wining beaches and two swim centres while fishing can be enjoyed at the two piers of the park (bait and tackle available). For those who would like to stay a bit longer there are several campgrounds throughout the park. The park further offers a snack bar and food concessions as well as 14 picnic areas, restrooms can be found at several locations all around the park. Opening hours: Daily from 7am unitil dusk
