De Soto National Memorial (Bradenton, USA)

The De Soto National Memorial is located in Bradenton and can be accessed from the I-75 and I-275. The 27 acres park was established in 1948 and serves to commemorate the landing of Hernando de Soto and his 600-strong army in 1539. Guided walks and nature trails are available and recreational activities include bird watching, boating and fishing. There are also picnic areas and a few small beaches. The seasonal Camp Uzita opens from December to April and offers visitors an opportunity to experience “living history” as portrayed in live demonstrations and other events. Entry to the park and Visitor Center is free and the latter offers various exhibits as well as a bookstore and small theatre where an orientation film is shown.
