Thermes d'Antonine (Tunis, Tunisia)

Built in between 146-162 AD the remains of the baths of Antoninus Pius are the most important site in ancient Roman Carthage. The baths, which cover an area of 4.5 acres, have once been the third biggest in the Roman Empire and are the largest outside of Rome. Not much of the upper structures remains today but the walls of the basement are well preserved and allow visitors to gain a good impression on the size and structure of the site. What can be seen during a visit includes the remnants of the frigidarium (cold bath), tepidarium (hot room),laconicum (sauna), caldarium (warm bath), destrictarium (room for personal hygiene), palaestra (Gym), natatio (outdoor pool) and a restored column. The baths can be found in between Avenue Habib Bourguiba and the sea, the entrance is located around the corner in Avenue des Thermes d’Antonin. Open daily from 9am-7pm
