Positive Reviews

positive:

Quiet seaside location

If you're really looking to get away from everything and everyone you may find this hotel to your liking. It opens onto its own secluded beach, which has few other holidaymakers on. There are a lot less tourists around too than in the hotel's heyday so you'll have more space to stretch out.

positive:

Incredible rates

Some guests can't quite believe the very low half-board rates that they pay at the hotel Solymar! This helps some of them accept the negatives of the hotel with a smile.

positive:

Hospitable staff

Although the reaction to the staff is a bit mixed, some guests find them friendly, polite and hospitable.

Negative Reviews

negative:

The hotel has seen better days

The price may be attractive and getting away from it all may have a certain appeal, but many guests are shocked by the decline of this once thriving resort. The rooms are old, the air-conditioning doesn't work, the place smells of cigarettes, packs of dogs roam around... The list is pretty long...

negative:

A bit too isolated

Between “getting away from it all” and “being completely cut off from civilisation” is a big chasm. Unless you want to spend your days around the pool or on the beach, there is absolutely nothing else around. There are no shops or restaurants around. If you have a car though, the hotel Solymar may well be a cheap base to visit Tunis, Hammamet and Tunisia's other attractions.

negative:

The staff don't speak English

Some guests find communicating with the staff difficult if they don't speak any French as they do not seem to speak any English. If you speak French or Arabic, you will probably be OK.
