The Pregamonmuseum is located on the Museum Island in Berlin. The museum was built between 1910 and 1930. It was the most visited art museum in Germany in 2006 and there are 850000 people visiting every year. The museum is divided into 3 different sections. It includes the Middle East Museum, the Museum of Islamic Art and the antiquity collection. The museum was damaged at the end of the Second World War when Berlin was being attacked but quite a lot of the objects were taken to safe places to be stored. In 1958 most of the display objects were returned to Germany. Some parts of the collections are still in Russia and being stored in the Hermitage in St. Petersburg and Puskin Museum in Moscow. The returning of the pieces was blocked by the Russian law courts in 2003.
