Otto Weidt Workshop Museum (Berlin, Germany)

The Otto Weidt Workshop Museum is dedicated to the visually impaired Berlin brush factory owner who employed deaf and visually impaired Jews, and in that way prevented many of them from being sent to concentration camps. Between 1941 and 1943 Weidt employed at least 30 Jewish people and he bribed Gestapo officials to prevent their deportation. He also found collaborators to produce forged documents and he sold some of his wares on the black market to buy extra food for his staff and for a number of Jewish families he was helping to hide. The museum is administered by the German Resistance Memorial Centre Foundation and is housed in Weidt’s original workshop. It is open daily and admission is free.
