The East Side Gallery is an international memorial for freedom. It is 1.3 km long and is the largest open air gallery in the world. Located along the banks of the Spree river in Friedrichshain near Ostbahnhof the gallery consists of 100 paintings by artists from all over the world. The paintings represent the time of the change in East Germany and reflect the great hopes for a better future for all people of the world. One of the most controversial images shows Erich Honecker and Leonid Brezhnev kissing each other on the mouth.
