About The Golden Lion

The Golden Lion is described as a ‘Thwaites Inn of Character ‘. Dating back to 1640, it still continues to accommodate visitors to the surrounding Yorkshire Dales. Characterful rooms are en-suite now and also include free toiletries, colour television and tea and coffee facilities. Pets are welcome, via prior arrangement and free Wi-Fi applies in the public areas. There is a separate residents’ lounge and a courtyard area in which to relax during the warmer months. The Golden Lion has a large restaurant and following breakfast, later dining menus include the fresh, local meats and vegetables from the surrounding area. The bar is well stocked with locally brewed ales, making it popular with local residents and visitors to the region. Settle’s quaint and attractive shops are within easy walking distance and Settle Railway Station is just a three minute walk from the hotel.

Settle' in for a great stay.

Good food and excellent service are on the cards here. Breakfast is wonderful and memorable. Whist you are here, don't miss out on the fantastic Settle Carlisle Railway!

A real escape to the country.

This mix of locals and visiting guests is a cocktail for a happy stay. You can't re-create this sort of atmosphere; multi-billion hotel chains have tried and failed.  No difficulty here, though. They've just added modern facilities to the 17th century building-and away you go!

The lion is king.

The late Lancashire comedian, Les Dawson used to say: “Yorkshire born, Yorkshire bred; strong in the arm ……” Not so, here. Expert management and super staff and customer service, all combine to ensure that this Lion continues to be a 'mane' attraction and a roaring success in Settle.

Life in miniature.

It's a single room but passed off as a double. Yes, it's comfortable  but there's no wardrobe. If there was, you'd need to take the bed out! Also; is it Yorkshire meanness that skimps on teas and coffees in the room and limits en-suite freebies to the very minimum, whilst over loading the tariff to the max? Just asking!!

No window of opportunity.

In their over enthusiastic re-decoration programme, they've painted over the window joints so there's no way you can open the damn thing and let in that fresh Yorkshire air. Frustrating because at least that's free!

A wind of discontent.

The beers may be on draught but the sealing of windows in the bedroom means that you need the heating on full blast just to survive the other icy draft from the windows.
