Universitetska Botanicheska Gradina (Balchik, Bulgaria)

Universitetska Botanicheska Gradina is the name of the University Botanical Garden which is located in the town of Balchik. It was established in 1955. It is situated in the park of the former palace of Queen Maria. Its area is 65 acres. Here you can see over 2000 kinds of plants including rare collections of plants from around the world. There is a collection of over 30 kind of palms, some of which are 50 years old. There is also a collection of over 50 species of large cactus. The collection is the second largest in Europe. At the Universitetska Botanicheska Gradina there are also rare tree species such as Ginkgo biloba, gum tree, candy tree, paper wood, metasekvoya, and magnolia. For people with disabilities there are special lanes and for blind people are placards with Braille. The garden is open every day of the week. The opening hours are from 8.00 am to 20.00 pm (during the summer season) and from 8.30 am to 17.30 pm (during the winter months). There is a fee to enter the gardens.
