Kent County Show (Maidstone, United Kingdom)

The Kent County Show began in 1923 as an agricultural show to display and hold competitions for livestock and produce. Originally it was held in various parts of the county but a permanent site was acquired at Detling, just outside Maidstone, in 1964. It is held annually over three days in the middle of July and now claims to be Kent’s largest outdoor event. The agricultural competition element is still there, but the Show has developed to include a range of family attractions and displays. These follow the countryside and farming theme and include working gun dogs, ferret racing and birds of prey, while the livestock section has been widened to include llamas and donkeys as well as the traditional cattle, sheep and pigs. Trade stalls promote local produce and crafts. There is a large car parking area, including one designated for disabled parking, and all parking is free. Dogs are allowed, but are not permitted in certain areas.
