Iglesia de Santa María del Mar (Barcelona, Spain)

Iglesia de Santa Maria del Mar is a Gothic church situated in Barcelona. It is one of the most famous churches in the city and was originally built for sailors and merchants in the fourteenth century. It was constructed between 1329 and 1383. The main nave of the cathedral is thirteen metres long and the main facade of the church is covered with a Gothic rose window from the 15th century and the sculptures of Saint Peter and Paul. It is also notable because the width of the church is exactly the same as the height of the sides of the nave. There are three aisles and the large stained glass windows ensure that they are filled with plenty of daylight. This cathedral has inspired the best seller “The Cathedral of the Sea”.
