Glen Affric (Cannich, United Kingdom)

Glen Affric was formerly part of the estate of the clan Chisholm. It extends for 24 Kilometres and contains one of the last remaining remnants of ancient Caledonian pine forest in the British Isles. The entire glen, which follows the course of the River Affric is designated as a nature reserve. At the head of the glen there are two large areas of fresh water called Loch Affric and Loch Beinn a’ Mheadhoin. Glen Affric is noted for several species of rare fauna and flora. Rare breeding birds include Scottish Crossbill, Crested Tit, Capercallie and Golden Eagle.
