The hotel is situated in the centre of Newark which is very convenient as it is close to many different bars, restaurants and shops. It is also just a short walk to the castle and the river. There is a 24-hour supermarket nearby should you wish to get some supplies for your room.
The food is very impressive, particularly the cooked breakfast. Food is cooked to order and dietary requirements are catered for. The full English breakfast is recommended as is the vegetarian option. The restaurant, especially the rib eye steak, has impressed previous guests.
The décor in the hotel is starting to look tired and worn as are the fixtures and fittings in rooms with the beds beng not very comfortable. However, there are reports that the owners are planning a full refurbishment of the hotel so this should alleviate concerns.
The restaurant lacks warmth and ambience. Eating in there seems like a bit of a chore especially when there are not many guests around. However, this doesn’t detract from the quality of the food offered and it is perhaps down to the time of year.
You may have difficulty finding the hotel as it is on a one way street and set back from the road, but this seclusion is part of the charm and character.
