The Old Vine House (Maribor, Slovenia)

The Old Vine House stands on the north side of the River Drava in Lent, the old district of Maribor. The vine attached to the house is reputed to be over four hundred years old and the oldest in the world. Each year the grapes are cut from the vine and made into a special wine that is reserved for visiting dignitaries. The vine cutting takes place at the culmination of the Old Vine Festival which celebrates local cuisine and wine. Inside the house is a small museum that holds temporary exhibitions relating to aspects of wine making and rural life in the Stajerska region. Weekly wine tastings are also held here and visitors can buy wine at any time the centre is open.
