Der Nationalpark Plitvicer Seen befindet sich direkt an der Nationalstraße zwischen Zadar und Karlovac. Die Seenlandschaft der Plitvicer Seen verdankt ihre Entstehung der Karstlandschaft. Sechzehn kleine und große Seen auf unterschiedlicher Höhe sind durch Wasserfälle miteinander verbunden und münden nach einem 76 m hohen Wasserfall schließlich in dem Koranafluss. An den Seen kann man entlang wandern oder sich mit dem Boot bewegen. Im Park wurde ein Teil der See- und Wasserfallaufnahmen für die Karl May Winnetou Filme gedreht. Im Jahre 1979 wurden der Park von der UNESCO in das Verzeichnis des Weltnaturerbes aufgenommen. Dieses Gebiet ist eines der letzten Europas, in dem noch heute eine Vielzahl an wildlebenden Bären und Wölfen zu finden ist. Der Eintrittspreis beträgt je nach Jahreszeit zwischen 50 kn (7,00 €) und 95 kn (13,00 €) für Erwachsene.
