St Michael and All Angels was built in the years 1829-30 and constructed of load-bearing Gault brickwork, roofed with Welsh slates. The church was designed by George Smith in the Gothic style and a gift by John Cator Esq to the parish. The church features a 172 ft tall spire at its east end which is responsible for its nickname “the Needle of Kent”. The Church is located in Blackheath Park, right at the entrance to the park.
