Quedlingburg Sightseeing Tour (Quedlinburg, Germany)
Quedlinburg is considered to be “the cradle of Germany” as it was here where the Saxon Duke Henry was elected to become the first King of Germany in 919 AD. Henry I had a castle built on a sandstone rock that rises above the Historic Old Town, later on the Collegiate Church of St Servatius was added and his successors extended the complex several times. With the town being an imperial residence to the German sovereigns it gained in importance and soon became one of the historical centres of medieval Germany. Today the city is famous for its many well preserved timber-framed buldings, which, together with the castle and church, have been placed on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites listing. The town of Quedlinburg offers a guided tour that is held in English. During your visit you will see the most important sights of the World Heritage city, which will include not only the castle complex but also other historically significant buildings such as the City Hall, St Nicolas Church, and the oldest still completely existing timber framed building in Germany, several museums and more. The guided tours in English are held from May to September on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 2pm.
