Neuer Garten (Potsdam, Germany)

The New Garden is situated in the North of Potsdam, directly at the Jungfern See (Virgin’s Lake) and Heiligen See (Holy Lake). The garden was commissioned by Frederic William II in 1787 and, as opposed to the Baroque gardens in Sanssouci, designed in the English style by Johann August Eyserbeck. In 1816 it was re-styled by Peter Joseph Lenne , his design is the one that is still visible here today. There are a number of historical buildings in the park, such as the Marble Palace, Cecilienhof Palace, an Orangerie, a pyramid, a grotto and there is direct access to the Pfaueninsel (Peacock Island) and Glienicke Park with its palace. The New Garden is part of the Palaces and Gardens of Potsdam and Berlin UNESCO World Heritage Site.
