Schloss Quedlinburg (Quedlinburg, Germany)

The castle was commissioned by German King Henry I in 922 who wanted to build an imperial palatinate in the town. The Imperial Ladie’s Convent was founded in 936 and existed here until 1802. A male convent was situated in the valley below the sandstone rock on which the complex stands.The castle was extended several times over the centuries; the last addition was made during the 18th century. During the Nazi regime the castle complex, including the Collegiate Church of St Servatius, were turned into an important centre and shrine to Henry the Fowler, whom the Nazis, especially Heinrich Himmler, admired.The castle and church have been restored in the meantime and the stolen treasury from the church has been returned home.A museum that depicts the history and development of the palace complex and the town can be found in the Renaissance part of the castle.For information about opening hours and admission fees to the various parts of the castle complex please visit the website.
