Gateway of India (Mumbai, India)

This is Mumbais most famous landmark set on the shores of the Arabian Sea. It was often the first building that newcomers to India could see as well as being the historic departure point for British troops in 1947 upon Indias independence. During the day, especially at weekends, it is surrounded by locals and tourist alike with many vendors of snacks and tourist articles milling around. In the late afternoon, the sun hitting the basalt of its construction lights it up a rich honey colour.
