The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is a 4 story arched glass roofed shopping arcade designed and built by Giuseppe Mengoni in the 19th century. The roof also has a dome made of glass and a mosaic floor. It’s name is taken from King Vitorrio Emanuelle 11, Italy’s first king, who was on the throne when the shopping centre first opened to the public in 1877. Two major attractions in Milan are connected by the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II these are the Piazza del Duomo and the Piazza della Scala. Shopping within the Galleria include designer labels such as Prada and Gucci, but you can also buy lesser known labels and books, there are restaurants available within the arcade.
