Ellis Island (New York, USA)

Ellis Island Immigration Museum is located on Ellis Island at the mouth of the Hudson River in New York City. From 1892 up to 1954 it was the main entry facility for immigrants entering the United States of America. There are many things to see there, including the American Immigrant Wall of Honour which overlooks the Statue of Liberty and has the longest wall of names in the world. The American family immigration history centre is an interactive area where you can trace ancestors. Ellis Island Theatre produces 30 minute plays based on true immigrant stories. To get there a ferry leaves from Battery Park New York and Liberty State Park in New Jersey from 9am to 5pm daily. Admission to the museum is free but the ferry costs adults $12.00 (8 euros), seniors $10.00 (6.73 euros) and children 4-12 $5.00 (3.36 euros).
