Cabrillo National Monument (San Diego, USA)

Cabrillo is not only a monument to Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, who led the first European expedition into the area of San Diego, but also a natural park with plenty to explore. Located at the west of San Diego, it is situated on the tip of Point Loma peninsula. The park offers a vistor centre where more can be learned about the explorer. A self-guided tour through the 1880s Point Loma Lighthouse, which includes an exhibition that will give insight on the life-style and duties of lighthouse keepers of the period. In a WW1 radio station visitors have the possibilty to view an exhibition on military history. Outdoor activities include a 2-mile hiking trail with views over San Diego Bay, Whale watching, tidepooling and cycling. The park also offers some guided tours and a book shop. Open daily from 9am - 5.15pm
