It is thought that Alford Manor House was built in 1611. It was bequeathed to the town in 1967 and Alford Civic Trust was established to look after and manage the property. It is a Grade 2 listed building and one of the largest thatched roofed country houses in Britain. Today, Alford Manor House is a museum where some of the rooms are virtually untouched since 1611. There are also exhibits here of arts and crafts and the local silk making traditions. Surrounding Alford Manor House there are extensive gardens and tea rooms where refreshments can be purchased. Admission charges to the house and garden are: Adults - £3.50 (5.25) Concessions - £2.50 (3.75) Children - £1.50 (2.25 Euros) Family ticket (2 adults and up to 4 children) - £10.00 (15 Euros) Children under 3 - free The opening hours are: April to September: Tuesdays to Fridays and Sundays 10.00am. - 4.00pm.
