It is apparent that the place is in need of the renovations that are currently being carried out, and it would be sensible, when booking, to seek assurances as to the precise accommodation you will receive.
Guests generally were impressed by their rooms, which were found to be well furnished and spacious, with a good en-suite bathrooms, this is especially so in the main building.
The hotel, and its surrounding are found to be fairly good value, although the food is quite expensive. Staff service is excellent, and polite. The hotel is dog friendly, and an intelligent Labrador did not want to leave.
Guests were disappointed to be allocated a room without a bath, and the en-suite shower room was not well equipped, being poorly lit, lacking a bath mat, and more importantly without a shaver point. A guest who is a mother of four, and had escaped with her husband for a rare night away, had booked a double room, and was badly disappointed with a room where twin beds had been hastily put together.
Guests who arrived in time for the 2pm check-in were made to wait until 4pm as their room was not ready, consequently they were unable to make use of the swimming pool. It was a disappointment not to be supplied with a complimentary newspaper, and frustrating to find that the bar was closing rather early. Most of the time it was difficult to find a space in the car parks, because of conferences being held here.
The overall impression is that this is an impressive location, with beautiful surroundings, which will benefit from the much needed renovation programme, and also requires some rather better logistical organisation.
