Newstead Abbey Historic House and Gardens (Nottingham, United Kingdom)

Newstead Abbey dates from 1170 and began its life as an Augustinian priory. Following the dissolution of the Monasteries and their eventual abolishment under the reign of King Henry V111, Newstead Abbey fell into a state of disrepair. During the 18th century it was the home of the poet Lord Byron, who set about restoring the Abbey but eventually it began to fall into a state of disrepair once again. Newstead Abbey stands in 300 acres of landscaped gardens and is now owned by Nottingham City Council. It is open to the public and houses a museum which contains artefacts relating to Lord Byron and tells the story of his life. The house is open daily from the beginning of April until the end of September between 12 noon until 5pm. The grounds are open daily from 9am until dusk. Admission prices for the house and gardens are: Adults - £6.00 (9 Euros) Concessions - £4.00 (6 Euros) Children (aged 6-16) - £2.50 (3.75 Euros) The admission prices for the gardens only are: Adults - £3.00 (4.50 Euros) Concessions - £2.50 (3.75 Euros) Children - £1.50 (2.75 Euros)
